The AJ Buildings Library

Now part of an AJ subscription

As of 14th July, AJ subscribers will receive unrestricted access to the AJ Buildings Library

The AJ Buildings Library is a digital database that showcases hundreds of exemplar projects, most from the last 20 years but including major projects back to 1900.

What is the AJ Buildings Library?

The AJ Buildings Library is a digital database containing detailed project information on the most influential buildings in British architecture, containing:

 • Over 1,000 influential projects from today and the past 100 years

• More than 21,592 high-res images, drawings, scale plans and working details

• Comprehensive project data with complete credits to teams and suppliers

• A growing catalogue of buildings with dozens of new projects added every week

The AJBL is the ultimate research tool for architects. With an intuitive search function, you can quickly find buildings of specific interest and benefit from fingertip access to hundreds of projects directly relevant to your own work.

Architects can search for projects by age, cost, architect, building type, footprint, location, and a combination of these. For instance 'School built for less than £10m' or 'Offices between 1,000m² and 5,000m² from the last ten years' and 'Working details of external sliding doors'.

The AJBL already contains 14 years of AJ building studies - that's every study published in AJ since 1996 - and the full-time AJBL team are adding dozens more new and classic projects every month. Every listing contains a comprehensive collection of high-res photos, drawings, development images, working details and scale plans, which you can study in extreme detail, without leaving your office.

“It’s the kind of thing that might get used five or six times a day. We regularly send people to the RIBA library to get information on old projects — ease of access would have real value.”

Graham Morrison, Allies and Morrison
